Flip Book

Flip books delight kids and parents with fun, amazing animal fun facts and trivia

We have all heard of a Pride of Lions or a Flock of Sheep, but did you know there is a Wake of Vultures, A Float of Crocodiles or a Crash of Rhinos? And did you know that kangaroos can’t walk backwards? Or that puffins can stand on their tippy-toes? Or that a group of jellyfish is called a smack?

Well if you didn’t, you need to read ‘Didyano?’!

The first of the planned “Didyano?” series is a flip book (two books in one printed back to back) with facts on aquarium creatures in one half and zoo animals in the other.

The format for “Didyano?” is a double-page spread with an illustration for each species. Each entry has a collective name for the animal, tells where that name came from, and then uniquely describes and illustrates the distinctive family name and where it comes from.

A shiver of sharks, for example, comes from the lore of sailors getting the shivers as they spotted sharks circling beneath a ship and thought about what would happen if they fell overboard.

Each animal’s entry also has a scientific family name; a name from the animal’s native region; information about the animal’s family life; what males, females and babies are called; the sound the animal makes, and other facts.

For example, didyano that newborn elephants, called calves, are born with their eyes shut and must use their trunks to find their way around?

This flip book provides a one-page summary of facts on many aquarium and zoo animals.  It includes: names of the males and females, as well as the group name, plus some details about their young and how they are born or hatched, and their distinctive families.

The Be Aware and Care segment on each animal’s page has information on habitat and threats to the animal’s existence. Even vultures, snakes, jellyfish and sharks are important, and there are tips on what kids can do to raise awareness about understanding and protecting them.

This book, or should I say these books, are so full of interesting information on animals in both the water life and zoo life. It was a treat to share them with my two daughters and even gave my tween a few facts on an animal she was writing a report on. My toddler loves the hippos and loves talking about hippos. It even gained my sons interest as he read on about sharks which he loves. This book was not only fun in itself, but it was great sharing it with my kids and it will come in handy as an educational tool for me in my homeschooling. I love it and recommend it to everyone, and I can’t wait for more to come out.
