In 1947, the first consumer white glue was introduced and marketed by Borden® under the trade name “Cascorez Glue.” It was packaged in glass bottles with “ice cream pop” type wooden sticks attached with a rubber band. Shortly thereafter, the glue was repositioned under the name “Elmer’s Glue-All”, after Elmer, the spouse of Borden’s corporate symbol, Elsie the cow.

Elmer’s has come a long way since then. Today, Elmer’s markets hundreds of products developed to meet the ever-changing needs of consumers. They range from a full line of adhesives, arts, crafts, educational and licensed products for children to a complete offering of craft, hobby, office and home repair products for adults. Through product innovation and acquisitions, the Elmer’s family has grown to include an impressive collection of brands that provide project solutions and fulfill consumers’ inherent needs to create, build and learn.

Myth Busters

MythBusters Weird World of Water – Unlock the mysteries of water. It freezes, it boils and turns to gas. Is there anything it can’t do? Can is suck a ship down a drain? Will you find hot water at the North Pole? Can it blast a rocket into space? Test waters secrets and find out.

My son loved using this kit as he is always looking at things differently than I do. He loves learning what makes something work so this was right up his alley. And he loved making the rocket and testing out its flight ability. The first try was a dud, not sure what exactly went wrong (he is still trying to figure that out) but the second try was success and he was so happy that he got it to work. He also got to test out the power of whirlpools, create a rainbow and more. The Weird World of Water kit also just received the FamilyFun Magazine 2009 T.O.Y. award. Product can be found at Toys R Us, Target and Walmart.

Manicure Kit

With the Elmer’s Magnificent Manicure Kit, you’ll find everything you need to turn your house into a nail spa. Treat yourself to a manicure and pedicure and learn how to take extra-special care of your finger and toenails.

My daughter and I had a nice time with the Magnificent Manicure Kit. First we made a hand soak that made our hands nice and soft. And the steps we took to make it was a lot of fun, my daughter was amazed at the process. Next we made a lotion to make our hands even smoother and ended with filing and buffing our nails. We even added in hand massages and nail painting both our fingernails and our little toesies. It was great to spend some time with her just her and I making our own manicure set.

Each kit includes the following:

  • Crystal mud
  • Bath salt
  • Lavender mist fragrance
  • Cucumber melon fragrance
  • Soaking tray
  • Measuring spoon
  • Mixing spoon
  • Pipette
  • Lotion base
  • Dye
  • Glitter
  • Nail buffer
  • Toe separators
  • Pumice stone

The Magnificent Manicure Kit just picked up Creative Child Magazine’s 2009 Toy of the Year Award in the Educational Toys category. Available nationwide at Toys R Us. I highly recommend both of these Elmer’s Science Kits as not only will you and your kids have fun but they, and maybe even you, will learn something new. Great way to have  one on one time with each of them too. Both the MythBusters Weird World of Water and the Magnificent Manicure Kits would make great Christmas presents.

A special thank  you to Team Mom and Elmer’s for supplying the products for this review.
