Epcot Food and Wine Festival 2009

My favorite time of year has rolled around again. The time of year where I can go to Epcot and taste foods and wines I have never had before, where I can learn of different cultures on a more intimate level, the time of year to see great bands perform. I am talking about Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival. And this years was a big treat for me!

Rob and I

I went to Epcot on my birthday, which by the way I got in for free as part of their birthday celebration campaign and they gave me this button that said “Happy Birthday Jennifer” and I got so many birthday wishes, I loved it. My husband and I finally had a “Just the two of us” break and we enjoyed it so much. We definitely try to go more than once a year due to the overwhelming selections of food and wine.

We walked around the world showcase twice stopping to feast on the following foods and drinks:

Greece

• Athens, Greece: Greek Salad, Spanakopita (pictured to the left)

• Cape Town, South Africa: Seared Beef Tenderloin with Sweet Potato Purée, Mango Barbecue Sauce (this by far was the best tasting thing we had, went back two more times)

• Melbourne, Australia: Grilled Lamb Chops

• Mexico City, Mexico: Quesadilla con Chorizo (I love Chorizo!!! These were so good and go very well with a Margarita)

• Wellington, New Zealand: Lamb Slider

• Desserts and Champagne:  Champagne (The best champagne at the food and wine festival was the Moët Nectar Impérial Rosé, although a little on the pricey side, $11 a glass, this was one that kept us coming back for more!)

We are definitely going to have to go back and taste from the countries that we didn’t get a chance to stop at. Maybe when it gets cooler, it was almost too hot to wait in lines and we got sunburned half way through the day. But I can’t tell you how fun the Epcot Food & Wine Festival experience is.

Richard Marx Marquee

One of the main reasons for me choosing to spend my birthday at Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival was for the headlining concert of Richard Marx. The last of my 80′s favorite singers that I wanted to see and I was not disappointed! He had three sets and I caught the first and last and I loved every minute of it! That man can still rock both the guitar and piano and my musical senses! He played all my favorites and a few new songs and I loved that the majority of the audience sang their hearts out right along with him.

And if you want an even better Food & Wine Festival experience you should stay at Disney’s Swan & Dolphin Resort. This hotel is not only elegant, but it is accessible to Epcot by boat, so no driving and no standing in line to wait on the buses that stop at every hotel. There are three stops the boat makes and all are within walking distance to the Swan & Dolphin. We took full advantage of the hotel being so close to Epcot by taking a break mid day to get cooled off and changed. Very convenient if you ask me! Check out my past review here and check out their website for more information and to make reservations. See below for the Swan & Dolphins special for Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival.
