Frito-Lay wants to help ensure you never miss a beat during the holidays. With some shortcuts and quick “better for you” recipes coupled with a little flair and presentation, you’ll have your guests asking “how does she do it?”

So, we bring you the “Holiday Party in a Pinch:” A few tips to prepare both the home and the pantry so you’re always ready to be the holiday hostess:

  • Ambiance is everything – Keep a playlist of festive music easily accessible or stock the stereo with CDs so it’s ready at the push of a button…literally. Add a few scented candles and presto…instant ambiance!
  • Let guests add their touch – Keep a box of ornaments on hand and ask your guests to add one to the tree.
  • No clean-up necessary – Stock-up on a supply of holiday-colored paper plates, napkins and utensils to lessen post-party clean-up. And if the house is tidy before you head out for the day, there’s no scrambling once they arrive!
  • Stock the pantry – Have some “better for you” Frito-Lay products on hand to lessen the stress of “what to fix?” and allow for more time to visit with your guests. Frito-Lay’s Tostitos Scoops or Baked! Scoops — with a delicious dip — are true crowd-pleasers. Serve on a festive platter or dish and presto! …festive snacks ready to share!
  • Entertain with ease – Always have several fun board games accessible to keep guests entertained. And a few kid-friendly movies or simple crafts will keep the little ones busy while the adults socialize.

I have had many occasions where I had unexpected company drop by and nothing to throw together to eat. With the tips above and having the pantry stocked with the ingredients for the recipes below I will be the hostest with the mostest :)

Better for You Dip - By: myservicetoyou.blogspot.com

  • 1 can fat free refried beans
  • 1 small jar of salsa
  • 1 pkg shredded cheese (usually a cheese blend or 2% mild cheddar)
  • 1 lb lean ground turkey
  • 1 bag Baked! Doritos

Brown the ground turkey. Drain grease and add all other ingredients. Cook until ground turkey is heated throughout and cheese is melted. Enjoy with Baked! Tostitos.

Awesome Chipotle GoodnCrazy Chip DipBy: goodandcrazypeople.blogspot.com

  • 1 can of chipotle peppers (Who knew it’s so easy to get?)
  • 1 cup low fat sour cream
  • 3 peppers, blended to add to sour cream
  • Add 1-2 Tbsp of the sauce the peppers came in
  • A few shakes of onion powder
  • A few shakes of garlic powder
  • A squeeze of lime juice

Mix all ingredients in a serving bowl and enjoy!

GoodandCrazyPeople tells us: “I ended up adding mild salsa to my portion of the dip… but WHO CARES! It was awesome! We LOVED this with Tostitos Whole Grain Chips AND Veggies!”

Football Field DipBy: alittletipsy.blogspot.com

  • 3 avocados
  • Onion powder
  • Garlic salt
  • 1 can refried beans (I used Taco Bell Fat Free)
  • 1/2 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 small tub sour cream (I used Kroger reduced fat)

Spread the beans in the bottom of a small rectangular pyrex dish (mine was 2.75 qt — about 7 in x 9 in). Then, take a scoop of sour cream and put it in a Ziploc bag – saving for later. Mix the remaining sour cream with 1/2 packet of taco seasoning (or, to taste). Spread this mixture over the beans.

Next peel the avocados and smash in a bowl with 2 or 3 dashes of garlic salt and 2 or 3 dashes of onion powder (you can use garlic powder and onion salt if you prefer). Spread the avocado mixture over the sour cream layer, covering completely. This is your football field.

Now, take the sour cream you set aside (in Ziploc) and snip a little hole in the corner of the bag. Grab like a frosting bag and draw stripes over the avocado layer to line the field. Scoop with your favorite Tostitos and ENJOY!

To help you prepare for your next “better-for-you” holiday party in a pinch Frito Lay is offering a gift basket assortment (shown at top of post) of Frito-Lay products, decorative serving bowl and a guide to entertaining guests during the holidays (valued at approximately $40) for a giveaway on The Dirty Shirt. Please see rules below to enter today.

don’t you just hate when people just show up and won’t leave? a guy my daughter knows will just walk in my house and we know he isn’t leaving for anything short of a fire… I swear, he comes here to sleep, eat, and drive everyone absolutely bonkers. He once was here for 14 hours… even though we gave several pointed hints that we didn’t want him here at that time…

I had a friend of mine from high school who I haven’t seen in years and one day she shows up on my doorstep. She had her 4 year old son with her and after being here for most of the day and night asked if I would watch her son. Like a fool I said yes and she did not pick him up until the next evening. I was almost ready to call the police. I can’t believe that she pulled something like that and I haven’t spoken to her since. Thank you!

Actually the people I know are really good about phoning and setting up a time to come and see us, and likewise that is what we do if we want to visit people too. So, I’d say about 1 year ago we had unexpected guests and they only stayed about an hour and fifteen minutes, because they were on their way to do some shopping for Christmas.

I can’t really remember exactly when we had “unexpected” guests. Most of our friends and family call first or we invite them over. I guess the last time we had an unexpected guest was about 8 months ago. It was our pastor and of course he picked the worst time to show up. The house was a mess, we were in our sweats, and we had no beverages to offer him, except water and milk. He only came out to check on something, so he didn’t stay very long. Thank you for the giveaway. We love Frito products.

I cleaned myself up, made some mixed drinks, grabbed the pretzels, chips and dips, ordered out for pizza, and we all sat down and had a grand time. I love impromptu parties. ;)

My neighbor was out in her yard and wanted to come see my garden. Sure! She came back to the back yard and we chatted, then when I went inside, she just kind o followed along and stay for some tv watching, a snack and more chatting. Which was odd…..but ok with me as I didn’t have plans. She stayed probably 1 1/2 hours.

The last “unexpected” guest we had was our son home from college a couple of months ago for a “long weekend.” We thought he would probably be coming home but we didn’t know for sure; so, when he did arrive for a two to three day stay, our cupboards and refrigerator were definitely not ready for him!! He would have greatly appreciated a Frito Party-in-a-Pinch basket!

Such a fun question. I love unexpected guests. Honestly, when someone knows they can stop by unexpectedly, they think of you as a true friend.

The last unexpected company I had was my girlfriend Lauri and she stayed maybe a half hour. She was dropping off some things for little old sick me and lunch for my kids. Now that is a true friend.

Labor Day weekend we had a revolving door of guests-I served impromptu anything from my pantry since the guests stayed the whole day and into the evening!

Funny! Just tonight we had friends stop over. Luckily it was after dinner and they left when it was bedtime for the kids, so it wasn’t a big deal. I don’t mind having unexpected guests anyway!

The last we had unexpected guests over it was my daughter and grandchildren and they were hungry as they didn’t eat dinner before coming over and it was leftovers for them as I was tired and didn’t feel like making anything :-)

Thanks for the chance to win!

I am lucky that this does not happen very often because I make it very clear that I do not like it. LOL The last time this happened was in 1994 actually. They did not stay long at all, as they were on their way to see a movie and just thought they would stop to say hi and see our new apt.

UGH I HATE it when people drop by unannounced or uninvited! It is one of my BIGGEST pet-peeves! Thankfully, most of my family and friends know this and stay away! LOL However, one day last summer I came home from running errands and found a note on my door that my mom had left. The house was a shambles, so I am glad I was not home when she stopped by!

The last time unexpected guests showed up it was my brother in law, and I just fed him what we were having. He has a tendency to show up unexpectedly around dinner time.
