Frito Lay | Tailgate Party Giveaway

Frito Lay Logo

Football season is finally here…and everyone knows that game day just isn’t complete without the ultimate tailgating party! Whether it’s with a group of friends huddled outside the stadium or the family gathered around the TV in the den, tasty food and snacks are essential to a “winning” tailgating experience.

Tailgating for most of us includes hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza and saucy wings. But with a little planning you can create a menu that is not only good for you but good tasting too!

Fewer penalties, better tailgating…

Who goes to tailgate parties for the veggies? Not me that’s for sure! It’s definitely a time to indulge and enjoy. But it doesn’t have to be a total eating catastrophe. At Frito-Lay, their portion control sizes make it easy to enjoy all your favorite treats – in moderation. And simple “tricks” like offering dips made with reduced-fat sour cream or that offer positive nutrition like salsa or guacamole, cooking with lean turkey meat and fat-free refried beans can cut hundreds of calories off your meals and still taste great for you and your hungry fans.

So, today I am bringing to all the Dirty Shirt readers a Better-For-You Tailgate Recipe Contest. What I am looking for is a new recipe for my parties. The most important rule is that recipes MUST include Frito-Lay product(s). They can be incorporated in many ways:

  • In the recipes themselves, such as Frito-pies
  • Tostitos-base in taco salads dishes/dip
  • Tostitos scoops or various other Lays chips used for “dipping” the recipes

And here is what you can win for sharing a recipe with me…

Frito Lay Giveaway

Tailgate Party Pack includes: Lays Potato Chips, Tostitos Scoops, Fritos, a football shaped chips & dips bowl (with goal post stands), and a $25 Gift Card to get the rest of what you need for an awesome tailgate party to cheer on your team.

Sound good? Then see the rest of the rules to enter to win today!!!!

  23. angie says:

    2 avg. bags cornchips
1 lg. can baked beans, heated until hot
    2 pkg. shredded Mozzarella cheese
1 head lettuce, chopped to liking
4 to 6 fresh tomatoes, diced
    2 lg. green peppers, diced
1 can pitted black olives, cut in halves
1 sm. or lg. container of sour cream

This is a buffet, layered, main dish. Each person creates “haystacks” to their liking. On an individual plate, start with some crumbled corn chips, top this with heated baked beans (these will soften the corn chips), on top of the baked beans place a handful of Mozzarella, next top with lettuce, then diced tomatoes, green peppers, black olives. Finally dab sour cream on top of all this and you have a “haystack”. Serves 6 or more.

  24. Christine W says:

Here is my favorite dip for tailgating:

    Tex Mex Black Bean Dip

    Ingredients
1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and
    drained
    1 teaspoon vegetable oil
    1/2 cup chopped onion
    2 cloves garlic, minced
    1/2 cup fresh corn kernels
3/4 cup chopped tomatoes 1/2 cup mild picante sauce
    1 teaspoon ground cumin
    1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
    1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
    1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

    Directions
    1. Place black beans in a medium size mixing bowl, partially mash beans — beans should remain a little chunky.
    2. In a medium size frying pan, heat oil over a medium heat. Stir in onion and garlic and saute for 4 minutes.
    3. Mix beans, corn, tomato, picante sauce, cumin, and chili powder into the frying pan; cook for 5 minutes or until thickened. Remove the pan from the heat, mix in cheese, cilantro and lime juice; stir until cheese is melted.

My favorite tailgate recipe is fast and simple. I will make salsa using my magic bullet. I will take a tomato, onion, cilantro, a dash of sea salt and blend it all together for a view seconds in the magic bullet and then put in a dish.
For the second variation, I will do the same as above, except add avocado to the mix.

I haven’t tried these but they certainly sounded interesting. Using Frito Lay potatoes chips in snack/dessert items. Here it is:
    Potato Chip Cookies
    5 cups crushed potato chips
    2 cups flour
1 cup each, brown sugar and white sugar
    2 eggs
    1/2 cup milk
    3 teaspoons baking powder
    2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped pecans (I prefer omitting these)

Mix crushed potato chips with the two sugars. Beat the two eggs and add to sugar and chips. Stir in milk and vanilla. Mix the flour and baking powder together and then slowly add to other mixture. Mix well. Grease baking sheet and drop by rounded teaspoonful. Bake at 375° for 10-12 minutes, or until golden.

Do you have a favorite brownie recipe? Next time you make the brownies, try adding 3/4 cup crushed potato chips to the mix. If the brownie recipe calls for salt, do not add salt, when adding the potato chips.

    Easy Taco Salad….
    Ingredients:
    1 lb of ground beef/sirloin
1 Taco seasoning of your choice (McCormick’s, or store brand)
Shredded lettuces (I use 2 or 3 since Iceburg isn’t nutritionally great)
    Diced Tomatoes
    Shredded cheeses (chedder, mexican blend)
Any add’l sides you & yours like to toss in (olives, peppers, hot sauce)
1-2 bags of Frito Lay : FRITOS! (regular size)
    _________________________________________
Brown meat. Drain. Prepare taco meat by directions on package of seasoning. Prepare bowls…place a handful of Frito’s on the bottom, taco meat, cheese, then lettuce & tomatoes. I find this way to be so much easier than having to crush up taco shells into ‘just the right size’! My kid love helping make the bowls up, since, well…they are snacking on the Frito’s when I’m not looking! If you are tailgating at the field…just put all the cold ingredients in baggies, but the meat should be put in pie pans, covered with foil. You can reheat the meat over the grill, and this will be an instant hit!

My fav is homemade hummus. Boil a bag of chickpeas (the dry ones, I hate the canned ones!) in UNsalted water. When they are soft, drain them and let them cool a bit. Put anywhere from 3-8 cloves of garlic in a food processor, depending on your taste, along with the chickpeas, some salt, and some cumin. Also add about 1/4 cup lemon juice and let it go til the garlic is busted up really good. With it running, slowly stream in olive oil ’til is is smooth and a consistancy you like. I usually use some water too to cut the calories a bit.

Feel free to add or omit spices. I prefer to use roasted garlic and add a lot. I am also fond of olives in it.
