Granny’s Guide to Fun & Fabulous Family Stories

Have you ever…

  • Put off writing your personal/family history?
  • Been confused about how to get started?
  • Become bored & frustrated with “self-help” books?
  • Wanted to have FUN writing your story?

Then this book is for you!

Everyone has a story to tell. Your family is fabulous and so are your family stories. Preserve those precious stories before they are lost forever. Memories from the heart are the greatest legacy you can leave for your loved ones.

Beth LaMie is a Personal Historian who is passionate about helping people capture their own heritage and family stories for future generations. She conducts writing workshops for adults and children as young as eight.

My Thoughts

I have always wanted to write my stories for my children to read as they got older but it was one of those things I kept saying I would get around to. And of course I would get busy and forget that I wanted to start that and kept telling myself, “Soon I will get to that”. That never happened until now. After reading this book I was inspired to go back through my memory, which isn’t what it used to be, and pull my stories out. I am starting slow and not from the beginning. You see a chapter further in the book is what triggered my excitement for writing my story…

In Part Two – Chapter Eight the use of sense of smell to remember stories hit my like a ton of bricks and I immediately started thinking of when I was a kid and my grandpa would come home from the seasoning factory he worked at and how he smelled of all these different spices, and that led to memories of my grandma cooking for us. So I broke out the laptop and started writing (typing) my stories. I am so happy to finally have that started. And I owe it all to Granny’s Guide! I recommend it to everyone who is looking for that jumpstart to your personal stories.

And Beth LaMie has been generous and has offered a copy of her book to one lucky Dirty Shirt reader, so please see rules below to enter today!

  5. The story of my commencement from undergraduate school. The President told how I had promise my mother right before she passed that I would go back to school. I finished with honors and from a distant corner of the auditorium I could hear my father whoop with surprise and joy at my mention! A very proud day in my life.

I’d like to capture the story of when my first husband captured a career criminal in the act of resuming his career just hours after leaving prison. He could run longer and faster than just about anyone, and he ran after the guy (who was considerably larger than him) across campus and along the river until they came upon a police car. It became a he said / he said thing until the police found a rare coin, missing from the room where he had been stopped, in the guy’s pocket.

I would love to write down everyday goodies from my kids! Like my 2-year old is just getting the sarcasm in her tone, and saying funny things, my 2-month olds are learning so much everyday, and my 14-year old, well, maybe I could forget some stuff there…

I would love to record the memory of my First Grandson, when he stayed the Summer with me before his first birthday, We had such a wonderful time together, and now that he is 15, it would embarrass him, but down the road i am sure he would want to know about it.
