Raising kids is never easy. And no one demonstrates this more hilariously than Academy Award®-Nominee Uma Thurman (Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction) in the hysterical new comedy, MOTHERHOOD.  Loaded with bonus features, including revealing interviews with Thurman and co-stars Anthony Edwards (“E.R.,” Zodiac) and Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting, “The Riches”), MOTHERHOOD cleverly journeys through the chaotic day of Thurman’s Eliza, an urban, stay-at-home mother of two, who comes to realize – in between birthday party fiascos, playground politics and life’s daily messes – what it really means to be a mother.

Eliza Welch (Thurman) is a former fiction writer-turned-mom-blogger with her own site, “The Bjorn Identity”. Putting her deeper creative ambitions on hold to raise her two children, Eliza lives and works in two rent-stabilized apartments in a walk-up tenement building smack in the middle of an otherwise upscale Greenwich Village. Eliza’s good-natured but absent-minded husband (Edwards) seems tuned out to his wife’s conflicts, not to mention basic domestic reality, while her best friend Sheila (Driver) understands this – and Eliza — all too well.

Shot entirely on location in New York’s West Village, MOTHERHOOD takes place in a single day that pushes to the tipping point Eliza’s fundamental fear she’s lost herself. Starting at dawn, her to-do list is daunting: prepare for and throw her daughter’s 6th birthday party, mind her toddler son, battle for a parking space during an epic alternate side parking showdown, navigate playground politics with overbearing moms, and mend a rift after posting her best friend’s confession on her blog. On top of it all, Eliza decides to enter a contest run by an upscale parenting magazine. All she has to do is write 500 words answering the deceptively simple question, “What Does Motherhood Mean to Me?”  And, it’s in the process of trying by nightfall to put these thoughts into words that don’t “sound like bad ad copy,” Eliza rediscovers her own voice and realizes what is truly valuable in her life.

MOTHERHOOD is available on both DVD and Blu-Ray now, from National Entertainment Media.

My Thoughts

If you want a hilarious look at Motherhood then this DVD is for you! I got my sisters together for this movie night and we laughed so hard. I am not a big Uma fan but she did good in this one. And the fact that it portrays motherhood so good is a huge plus, especially for my sister who doesn’t have children yet. She saw first hand how Hollywood sees moms and its not too far from the real thing. Motherhood was the perfect movie for us and gave us a great time together full of fun and lots of laughs. I recommend it to everyone who wants a laugh.

I have two copies of Motherhood to giveaway to two Dirty Shirt readers. Please see rules below to enter today.

I would love to win this – haven’t seen it!! One of my most recent motherhood moments was a few days ago. We were at a department store (I won’t disclose which store, lol) and my daughter just comes out and says, “Mom, Can I fart now?” I was so embarrassed and mortified. I pretended I didn’t hear her. I tapped her on the shoulder and I gave her “the look”. OMG!! Some of the people behind me were laughing. I ran out of there so fast. Later I laughed when i told y husband. Gotta love the kiddies!!

One of MY funniest moments of motherhood is when my 4 yr old misinterprets the meanings of things. (I can’t for the life of me remember an example right now). I just laugh and laugh.

A funny motherhood moment was when my 3 year old daughter dumped a bag of flour into the toilet bowl and was stirring with the toilet brush. I asked her what she was doing and she said ” Making bread Momma”. Thanks for the wonderful giveaway

My funniest moment…although not funny at the time…when my daughter was 2 she had a fever for a few days. The doctor told me to keep track of it, so i would take her temp and write it down. I had the pad and pencil near the changing table. When we went to my mom’s house, my daughter told everyone I was putting a pencil in her butt! I guess she only saw the pencil and never saw the thermometer!

One of my funny motherhood moments was I was in a dr. office and my daughter was messing with the magazines and I told her repeatedly not to. The final time I went to say her name, I couldn’t get the right name out. I went through all my other kids and a dog’s name before I got hers to come out. All the people in there waiting room, looked at me like I was a freak because I was calling her all these different names. I just had to laugh at myself. It was my mommy senior moment.

Our son is pretty popular at the bowling alley where my fiancee and I are in a league. We where there one night and our son walked up to a guy that bowls with us and started babbling to him. The guy asked him if he wanted a dollar. Our son said yes. They guy gave him a dollar. The next weekend, we took our son with us again, and this time our son just walked right over to the guys table, and picked up his wallet off the table and opened it to get another dollar. I was so embarrassed. Needless to say, the guy thought it was hilarious and gave him another dollar. So now, every time we take our son, the guy is waiting with a dollar to give to him. Thank goodness my son is only 2.5 and not 8 or something…and would know better!

Kids dropped off on time to I might add so off i go to shop…I reach the front door of Target only to look down at my feet. I still have my purple fuzzy M&M slippers on my feet! Oh well, still got the shopping done.
