2009 Christmas Gift Guide Participant

The best technology-based solutions for learning languages. Everything we do at Rosetta Stone revolves around a simple idea: learning a language should be fun, easy and effective.

We approach language learning the same way that you first learned a language — using a natural method that teaches new language directly, without translation. That means no more confusing grammar explanations or mind-numbing vocabulary lists to memorize.

As the leading language-learning software in the world, Rosetta Stone makes learning a new language second nature. Millions of learners in more than 150 countries have already used our software to gain the confidence that comes with truly knowing a new language. We’re continually improving our software technology and adding new products. With Rosetta Stone at the helm, the future of language learning is very bright indeed.

Level 1 Spanish (Latin America)

Build a foundation of fundamental Spanish vocabulary and essential language structure. Gain the confidence to begin to learn and speak Spanish. Master basic conversational skills, including greetings and introductions, simple questions and answers, shopping and much more.
Inside the box, you’ll find:

  • Version 3 Personal Edition CD-ROM software for Level 1 (Windows/Mac)
  • USB Headset with microphone
  • User’s guide
  • Audio Companion, a multiple-CD set to play or download to your MP3 player

This level will help you:

  • Build vocabulary and language basics
  • Spell and write accurately
  • Speak without a script
  • Retain what you’ve learned
  • Read and understand in your new language

Sample topics include:

  • Age, family relations, household items
  • Introductions and greetings
  • Times of day and calendar terms
  • Buying and selling

My Thoughts

Teaching my children is important to me. Being not only their mother but their teacher is a huge undertaking and one I question everyday, “Am I doing this right?”, “Are they on track?”, and “Am I teaching them everything they need to know?” are the questions that swarm my mind. I am doing a good job, a fact that is verified when they are tested, but what about teaching them a new language? Seeing as I am not fluent in any other language I know that I can not teach them that. But, I can now, with Rosetta Stone.

The change in my 10 year old daughter and her language skills is simply amazing! I am so proud of her and so happy that I had the wonderful opportunity to review Level 1 of Rosetta Stone’s Spanish (Latin America). I never thought I would have a child that understood Spanish let alone speak the basics of the language.

The ease of use of this program is nice, and as I always have, she learns best by actually doing. Hands on is the best way to really understand something. And she jumped right in and got right to work and is really excelling in it. I couldn’t be more happy and I can even say that I have been going along with some of her lessons and I am picking up on things as well. I am so excited for the whole family to go through it and move on to the next level. This program will definitely be a part of my children’s homeschooling for years to come and I recommend Rosetta Stone to everyone! This would be the perfect gift to get anyone this holiday season.

You can purchase Level 1 Spanish (Latin America) at RosettaStone.com for $229.00.

But wait, I am so excited to say that I have been given an opportunity to host a giveaway for Rosetta Stone here on The Dirty Shirt for my Christmas Gift Guide. Well since we have a college where many of these young people come to study, I think I’d like to learn Arabic level 1. That way when they are walking by you and not speaking English, and start to laugh, you can know if they are talking about you and making rude comments. I’m sorry I don’t want to bash people of other cultures or languages, but what are American English people who live in America suppose to think when you’re speaking our language then all of a sudden start speaking in yours when you come upon us in a store setting, or an event setting or whatever. It feels rude.

  21. Lauralee Hensley says:

I subscribe via email. Oh, by the way, I would like to say thanks to all the people who come to live in America who take the time to learn the language of this country.

But for business, Mandarin Chinese is getting to be very important. Had they had Norwegian, the choice would have been easier (just look at my name).

  439. Jes*In*CO says:

Well, If I ever want to get back into the workforce (in Healthcare), It is pretty much required that you are fluent in Spanish (at least where I live.)

So my choice would be http://www.rosettastone.com/learn-spanish/level-1 Spanish (Latin America) Lvl 1.

This would really help me in my community, we have a VERY HIGH Hispanic population, many that do not speak English. I would love to be able to communicate with them.

Thank you Rosetta Stone and The Dirty Shirt:) Jess

  448. Auriette says:

I was born in Spain to American parents, and we came to the States when I was six weeks old. I picked up a few words from my mother growing up, and I took two years of Spanish in high school and two years in college. Of course, I’ve lost a lot of it over the years, but I think it could come back very easily. For those reasons, I would choose Spanish (Spain) level 2.

  449. I would choose Spanish level 5. Thanks!

It’s been awhile since taking Spanish so I guess I would need to start with the basics, once again – leaning me toward Level 1. I would love to have the entire set to encourage me to learn much more – and have it as a “RED BOX” rental – where you could trade it in when done and start on another language! What a great idea – thanks for sharing this terrific prize to be!
