Sesame Street 40 Years of Sunny Days | Review and Giveaway
November 30, 2009 by admin - Jennifer

For 40 years, sunny days have swept the clouds away and inspired preschoolers to learn, grow and achieve their highest potential. Relive the best-of-the-best when SESAME STREET: 40 YEARS OF SUNNY DAYS debuts as a two-disc DVD set now available from Vivendi Entertainment and Sesame Workshop, the non-profit educational organization behind Sesame Street. Premiering on November 10, 1969, Sesame Street is the longest running children’s series and “…arguably, the most important children’s program in the history of television” (Newsweek.com). Featuring nearly six hours of everyone’s favorite Sesame Street stories, songs, Muppets™ and celebrity segments, the SESAME STREET: 40 YEARS OF SUNNY DAYS collectible set spans the renowned show’s four decades, includes never-before-seen archival footage and a limited-edition hard covered commemorative book.

Disc One 1969-1989 Seasons 1-20
Test Your Knowledge:
- Can you name the Maid of Honor and Best Man at Luis and Maria’s wedding?
- Which Star Wars residents visited Sesame Street?
Quotable Sesame:
- “Oh Bert! I forgot the nose! How could I do that?” – Ernie
- “Presenting the further adventures of everybody’s favorite hero: the man who is faster than lightning, stronger than steel, smarter than a speeding bullet. It’s Super Grover!” – Announcer “And I’m cute too!” – Grover
Did You Know:
- Originally, Telly was called Telly Monster, aka the “Television Monster,” complete with spinning hypnotic eyes.
- Caroll Spinney also plays Biff, the garbage man tasked with carrying Oscar around the Street. Watch the behind the scenes footage to see how it all works!
Disc Two 1990-2009 Seasons 21-40
Test Your Knowledge:
- Whose home on Sesame Street was destroyed by a hurricane?
- Who was the first furry neighbor to meet Abby?
Quotable Sesame:
- “You know I’ve had a lot of problems in this restaurant…” – Fat Blue as Mr. Johnson
- “In the alphabet system there are 26 letters. The detectives who investigate these ABCs are members of an elite squad called the Special Letters Unit. These are their stories. (chung chung!)” – Announcer, Law & Order Special Letters Unit
Did You Know:
- The animated series Bert & Ernie’s Great Adventures is created in an animation studio that is housed in a castle in Florence, Italy.
- Ostrich feathers are often used in Muppet hair because of the wonderful way they move. Abby Caddaby’s signature pom-pom pigtails make use of them.

My Thoughts
I have grown up on Sesame Street and have been captivated by it throughout the years. It has been a staple in all three of my children’s lives and has touch them in one way or another. Especially my youngest who is enthralled by Abby Caddaby, the joy that crosses her face when she sees her is absolutely priceless! And I credit a lot of their learning to this show and am so proud of what they have learned over the years. And I may be an adult but the little child in me comes out when Sesame Street is on and I dance around, singing the songs and count along. I love Sesame Street, my family loves Sesame Street and we all recommend the Sesame Street 40 Years of Sunny Days to everyone young and old. Great memories to make and great memories to remember.
Watching these DVDs brought me back to a time when my life was simple, where I got to soak in all the exciting things about Sesame Street. I not only was transported back in time, but I was brought to the present, to where my toddler, who is picking up on a lot of things, sat, learning and laughing along with the characters.

And for all those who have been touched by the greatness of Sesame Street I have 3 copies to giveaway to 3 lucky Dirty Shirt readers! Please see rules and enter to win!

Oh my gosh, I loved sesame street! Oscar the Grouch was my favorite character. In fact, when I got my first car, I proudly displayed a mini stuffed Oscar in his garbage can on my dash! I had several others, including the Cookie Monster. My niece, who is now 30, would play with Cookie Monster whenever she came to visit. I would love to give this to her son for Christmas.

I love Sesame Street. I watched it all the time when I was a kid. My favorite was Grover. I guess I always thought his heart was in the right place even if his actions didn’t always turn out right. My daughter is a super Elmo fan-no surprise there.

Ok…without giving away my age….I was 5 when Sesame Street came on the air. When I was in Kindergarten, my class put on a show with songs from Sesame Street. My mom bought the album and I learned every song on it. I am not quite sure of the exact name, but my favorite song was “J Jump Joyful”. Thanks for the review and giveaway…and for bringing back memories!

My favorite skit was when Ernie tied a string around his finger so he would remember something and tied his next finger to remind him of his tied finger and so on. He gets to the end and forgets what he tied the first finger for. Silly I know but it was so funny!
Thank you!
