Sid the Science Kid | Dive Olly Dive | Review and Giveaway

Being a homeschooler I am always on the lookout for things that can help me teach new topics to my children. And DVDs from PBS shows are the perfect thing to help me out. Especially when it comes to my toddler, who picks up so much on her own and really pays attention to what I say when I am working with the older two kids. So when I was asked to review and host a giveaway of the following titles I jumped at it because I see it as a learning experience for my children.

The Bug Club

Sid the Science Kid: The Bug Club

When Sid the Science Kid hears dogs barking in his neighborhood, he wonders if they are talking to him. At school, Sid discovers that animals do communicate in lots of different ways, by using body language, making sounds, and barking! Woof! It’s the latest question in a long list of questions that Sid finds himself wondering about. For example, what makes dirt so dirty? Why do bees live in hives and ants live in anthills? Do leaves actually do anything? Come explore backyard science with Sid in these super duper episodes that feature bugs, nature, animals and more!

Episodes included are:

  • Hello Doggie
  • Home Tweet Home
  • The Dirt on Dirt
  • Don’t Forget The Leaves

Change Happens

Sid the Science Kid: Change Happens

Sid the Science Kid wants to know why things have to change. Why does his yellow banana turn brown? How come his shoes are shrinking? What made his ice pop melt and just how does Grandma know how to make a pancake that is not squishy or burnt? Sid and his friends work together to discover the effects of time, temperature and the environment with the help of some revealing experiments and songs.

Episodes included are:

  • My Mushy Banana
  • My Shrinking Shoes
  • My Ice Pops
  • The Perfect Pancake

Ship Shape Sub

Dive Olly Dive! Ship Shape Sub

Olly the submarine is in for a whale of an adventure when he and his friends get together under the sea!

First, Olly, Beth and Skid ignore a warning from Diver Doug when they decide to stay overnight on a “haunted” shipwreck. The friends soon learn that the spooky ship might not be haunted, but it’s still dangerous! In another adventure, Suzy the Sea Plane doesn’t listen to Ranger the Cowboy Seahorse because of his small size. But when Suzy becomes tangled in the Kelp Forest. she learns good things can come in small packages!

In one sub-tastic adventure after another, Olly and his friends learn some valuable lessons, including listening to others and not judging a book by its cover. And one of the most important lessons they discover is to learn from their mistakes!

Episodes included are:

  • Haunted Ship Prank
  • Less is More
  • Navigation Consternation
  • Follow That Lobster
  • Don’t Tell beth

My daughter loved all these DVDs and while I have always been impressed with PBS and the values and things it teaches children I am amazed at the transformation over the years to continually put out high quality, educational shows with characters that actually engage kids. I loved watching these shows with my toddler and watch her face while she tries to understand what is going on in them. It’s almost like I can see the wheels of her mind turning. I love PBS and highly recommend these DVDs to everyone! For me they are must haves!

And I am so happy to say that I am able to host a giveaway of all three of these DVDs to one lucky Dirty Shirt reader! If you would like to experience these shows with your kids then see rules below and sign up to win!!!

We are a homeschool family too and I like to have things like this to keep our little ones busy when the big kids need more help. This show looks adorable! We need to check it out. Our four year old is a huge PBS fan. He loves Caillo and Super Why. The big kids love the new Electric Company which I believe is on regular PBS not PBS kids.

  49. My grandson’s favorite is Super Why, followed closely by Sid the Science Kid. PBS has been a favorite channel for my family for over 40 years! way back when Sesame Street first came on the air! I remember watching it with my little brother & then with my own 2 sons, and now 2 grandsons! PBS has consistently added wonderful learning with “fun” shows as long as I can remember. It would be a treat for me & my grandsons to own Sid & Olly!

  50. I am a “Dirty shirt” subscriber via email.
thanks again for a chance for some wonderful family DVDs.
