The Eye Patch Kids review

Meet the Eye Patch Kids, a truly unique product created for children who have been diagnosed with Amblyopia, the most treatable form of blindness in the world, because all it takes is an eye patch but it’s getting a child to wear the eye patch that is the hard part. I would like to introduce you to Kelly Harmsen, who knows first hand how hard it can be to patch a child, after her son was diagnosed with Ambyopia at two years old.

Kelly came up with the idea to make a DVD with puppets wearing eye patches, singing and dancing. It worked so well that she started a company to make them available to the over 4 million other children in the US dealing with this. So with the help of her husband, her sister who helped write the script and perform various roles and close friend, who is the star of the video playing Princess and the Eye Patch, the “Eye Patch Kids ” came to life.

After watching the DVD her son has been good with his patching because he associates wearing the patch to having fun with the puppets. Let’s meet them now:

Join Princess, Patty and Peter, the Eye Patch Gang, as they take you through the story of Princess’s visit to the eye doctor to discover she has amblyopia (lazy eye). Princesses’ unwillingness to wear an eye patch and how Patty and Peter (who already wear eye patches) show her how fun it is and all the great things she can do with her eye patch on. They laugh and sing their way through the video along with Bjort’s (the furry head eye patched creatures). There is a Patch Pledge Promise that Princess recites along with the Bjort’s to your child as she tells them that they need their eye patch in order to be part of their special eye patch gang.

With news coverage from CNN, and a special CafePress store the Eye Patch Kids are proving to be the concept that helps children get used to wearing an eye patch. I recommend this DVD to anyone having to treat this. It is a fun, creative way to help your child.

What a wonderful idea! I think it would be a great way to introduce difference and acceptance to young children.

I had a “lazy eye” and wore an eye patch for one semester of 1st grade. I wish that my parents had this years ago for me, but I did well. This is a great product.
    Thanks for the great review.

BTW, At first, the kids in my class thought I was a pirate. lol They were all very nice to me.

I just reviewed this video, also, and will do my write up soon. My son really could have benefited from this DVD years ago when his right eye had to be removed. We also told him it was COOL to be a pirate when he wore his patch ;-)
