Today’s children are exposed to a dizzying array of technology platforms and services that present endless possibilities…and more than a few problems. How do parents keep up with all the technology that is now second nature to their kids? How can parents make informed decisions about how their kids spend their time online and which tech devices and internet sites are appropriate? How can parents give their kids guidelines that should apply both inside and outside the home? Above all, how can parents keep their kids safe – protecting them from online dangers, whether it’s cyber-bullying, online predators, pornography or ID theft?
Founded by parents with extensive technology backgrounds, The Online Mom is an organization and web site devoted to providing the knowledge, the advice, and the tools that will help all parents protect their kids and encourage responsible behavior as they make the most of the new digital world.
Whether it’s understanding social networking, photo sharing, texting, YouTube or just finding the right video games, The Online Mom has the explanations, the advice and the recommendations you have been looking for.
In this ever changing world things aren’t what they used to be. And I am not just talking about gadgets but about the amount of time our children spend with these gadgets. I am a blogger, gamer mom and tech gadget lover but I know the limits. Children don’t seem to understand that and sometimes parents find it hard to get a grasp on it let alone talk to their children about it. The Online Mom is here to help. I love how the site is divided by age range, makes it so much easier to find help, tips and advice for each of my children.
The sections on the site for tech hardware, software, video games and more offer up a whole new look at the ever changing world. I love that there is in depth information about video games, because I am a gamer mom (I even ran a clan on FFXI for 4 years) I tend to look at the rules parents place on their children a little differently. I am happy that I now have a place to send my friends who still don’t understand it all to so they can learn more about video games and really anything else tech related.
And speaking of tech related things you can twitter with The Online Mom founder Monica Vila, and attend the tweetchats held every Wednesday night at #theonlinemom, in which participants discuss everything from privacy on social networks to back to school gadgets. Click here to follow The Online Mom now.
And last but not least check out The Online Mom’s Facebook fan giveaway, from now through Monday, September 21st they are going to give away a Nintendo Wii game system and some other prizes to fans who complete various fan challenges over the almost two-week contest period.
