The Time Out Pad™ helps parents make the most of the time out technique.

To help children learn when their behavior is not acceptable, many parents use the ‘time-out’ technique, sitting the child quietly for a few minutes to calm down. Time-outs are a great way for the parents to stay calm too!

Key features

• Simple to use pressure pad with built-in timer
• Visual countdown and audio function
• Suitable for children from 2 years and up

How it works

  • Simply set the built-in timer to the desired time-out duration (usually one minute per year of the child’s age) and sit the child on the pressure sensitive pad.
  • If the child gets up before the end of the programmed time, an alarm sounds to alert the parent or caregiver, and the countdown will pause until the child sits back down.
  • Once the full time-out countdown has elapsed, the finish tune is played to let everyone know that the session has ended. The child should then apologize and be rewarded with a big hug!

I love the concept of something other than myself telling a child when their time up is over. Because with my first two kids they sure as heck didn’t listen to me. I have used this on my toddler, she is just shy of being 2 and I don’t think the concept is understood just yet. But she has been through a biting phase and I used this to let her know that biting will not be tolerated. She sits still for a few seconds with her lip out and then immediately gets up and plays with it. I think she is a tad young for it yet.  But I will be putting this to good use when she is a few months older because I have seen it work on other children.

Child above is model and not my child.

My friend, who had never seen one before, came over with her 3 year old son and he slapped my daughter and she asked me where she could put him for time out. I whipped out the Time Out Pad and she placed him on it, told him he was on time out, and he stayed until his time out was over and then got up and played with it. But it worked and what’s more it worked on someone who had never seen it before. My friend was thrilled and said she would be picking one up. I think the Time Out Pad is a great product and recommend it to those needing help in the time out department.

This is a great product. I work at a pre-school and this will come in handy.

When you explain how it works you mention “The child should then apologize and be rewarded with a big hug!”

I don’t mean to be a stickler about wording, but I don’t think you mean “rewarded.” After disciplining, we always reassure our toddler with a hug. However, I would never want my child to think he was being rewarded for remaining in time-out. It is not exactly a high-five moment. The hug is just to let the child know he is forgiven and still very-much loved.

Still, this was a very good review on an extremely interesting product. I may look into getting a Time-Out Pad to use with my children.
