2009 Christmas Gift Guide Participant

Tinycandy is an elf growing up in the North Pole who always felt left out because he walks with a limp. With Christmas approaching, Tinycandy is desperate to find his special “gift” in order to contribute to Christmas in Santa’s workshop and become accepted by the other elves. Tinycandy soon discovers that his gift is making special candies shaped like hooks that make Christmas a little sweeter for everyone. Impressed by Tinycandy’s new talent, Santa christens the special treats “Candy Canes.”

In Tinycandy’s Gift, Estes creates a unique history of how the candy cane got its name and weaves in a classic tale that conveys to children one of the pivotal rules of life. Estes has spent her life working with and raising children and believes that teaching them to appreciate their own and others’ differences is the most important lesson of all.

~~~~~~~~~~
Raised in the beauty of the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee, Susan Estes graduated from high School and married her high school sweetheart. Five years later she found herself divorced, and working two jobs to support the two shinning stars in her life, her daughters, Christy and Tabatha. With a dream of becoming a nurse, she worked her way through nursing school and graduated at the top of her class. As her daughters grew, she became involved with coaching cheerleading and basketball. Her service and volunteering with young people won her “Mayor’s Merit Award” in 1983. During this time she met and married her soul mate, Travis Estes.
Knowing they could not have a child together due to complications from surgery, the thought of adoption kept playing in their minds. A chance visit to the hospital resulted in the adoption of their son, Jeremy, a miracle child. It is this miracle that Susan writes about in her first book, “One Miracle Under God,” released in July 2006 by Booksurge Publishing. A second book, “Choice of the Spirit Child,” is the story she told her son when he was young, a story to empower adopted children so they know they had a choice in whose arms they are placed. Susan has another children’s book in progress called, “Tinycandy’s Gift,” with a release date planned for August 2008 for the Christmas Holiday Season. S. E. E. Creative Concepts, LLC was created to publish her books under. In her spare time Susan enjoys writing, taking classes at the University of Tennessee, making crafts, reading, participating in her neighborhood women’s club activities, spending time with her husband, three children and three grandchildren, and playing with her wooly dog, Sasha.
My Thoughts
My kids and I loved Tinycandy’s Gift and I am happy to say that this book will be added to those we read to our children every Christmas. My toddler loved the pictures and got excited every time she saw Tinycandy in the book and our review copy came with a Read-along CD which my daughter loved a little more than me reading it because the signal to turn the page is sleigh bells playing and she loved the sounds they made.
I am excited to say that I get to share this wonderful story with one lucky Dirty Shirt reader. Just see rules below to enter today.
