Having those special moments to bond with my daughter means a lot to me. But how does one choose which of those precious moments you talk about personal things like puberty and periods? I think in the beginning for me I felt like I didn’t want to ruin our time together by talking about things that I wasn’t sure she would even want to discuss with me. But she was wanting the answers so it made that talk and every other one since very easy for me. I just make sure I stop and really listen to her and then give her my feedback and I think she is most comfortable having these types of conversations that way.

Back in the day when she was small our bonding time was always there. Now I make sure in her busy life to make special moments for just the two of us. We plan shopping trips, trips to get our nails done and even trips to our local coffee shop (smoothies for her) so we can just sit and talk. Sometimes she will even open up about things all on her own and sometimes I need to read the cues she is giving me when she wants to know more about something. I still have many, many more talks to have with her, I space them out by age, and have a whole list of things to say at a later date, unless of course she hints around and I ask her if she wants to know more.

While we rarely have moments at home alone together I try to have most private conversations in a quiet place, even just sitting in the car in the driveway. These moments mean a lot to her and they mean the world to me, makes me still feel needed!  I would have to say though that the easiest time to talk to her about her period is when she doesn’t have it. We kind of have an ongoing joke about that! But one thing is for sure, I make sure she is prepared every month and it has made things easier to adjust to for her.

Stay tuned next month when I will share information on Back to School and how to avoid embarrassing moments. And please check out the Hello Period page if you or your daughter has any questions right now.

I wrote this review while participating in a Brand Ambassador Campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of U by Kotex Tween and received products to facilitate my post and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.
