Duck Duck Moose was founded by three friends who share a passion for children, music, education, design, and play. We observed that our young children loved to play with our iPhones – a perfect form factor for small hands and an interface that is intuitive for even toddlers. We also noticed that there were very few fun, educational apps designed for children.

Wheels On The Bus

Wheels on the Bus is a fun, interactive musical iPhone book, based on the popular children’s song. An original production by Duck Duck Moose, Wheels on the Bus includes fresh illustrations, creative interactions, and live music. Designed for children of all ages, starting as young as 18 months. This application has made the Top 10 List in Education.

After I downloaded this on my iPod Touch I let my 19 month old sit in my lap and play with it. I will have to say that I was impressed with the interaction of this application. The Wheels on the Bus is a song that I always have sung to my kids and I loved seeing it this way and sharing it with my daughter. At the beginning, when you can make the wheels on the bus go round and round my toddler was making the bus go fast and when she stopped the bus slowed down until it came to a complete stop. I loved what this taught my daughter, especially the cause and effect.

Aboard the moving bus, you can:

  • Spin the wheels to make the bus go faster… or slower
  • Open and close the doors
  • Move the bus driver’s arm while she says “move on back!”
  • Swish the wipers and wipe away raindrops
  • Make the people on the bus go up and down
  • Help a baker serve some cake!
  • Pop bubbles and make a goldfish jump
  • Make a dog say “woof” and sniff a bone
  • And much more!

I love everything about this application and my toddler loves it too. Everyday she says “bus, bus” to get me to put it on for her and she loves to poke at everything on screen and experience what makes noises and what doesn’t. There is so much more to this as well. You can change the language in the settings and introduce your child to foreign languages like Spanish, French, German, and Italian. And one of my all time favorite things about The Wheels on the Bus is that you can record your own voice to use. I recommend everyone getting this on their iPhone or iPod Touch for their toddler, it provides hours of fun, and a great distraction for them when you need to get things done!
