Willow | Book Review

Willow

Seven months ago, on a rainy March night, sixteen year- old Willow’s parents died in a horrible car accident. Willow was driving. Now her older brother barely speaks to her, her new classmates know her as the killer orphan girl, and Willow is blocking the pain by secretly cutting herself. But when one boy —one sensitive, soulful boy—discovers Willow’s secret, it sparks an intense relationship that turns the “safe” world Willow has created for herself upside down.

Told in an extraordinary fresh voice, Willow is an unforgettable novel about one girl’s struggle to cope with tragedy, and one boy’s refusal to give up on her.

This book is amazing, and once started I couldn’t stop. The voice that this author gives throughout this book is one all parents needs to be aware of. I was captivated by the situation that Willow was in and devastated by the outcome. I was mad at her for cutting, but sad for her because of why she felt the need to do so. This book was one intense, powerful roller coaster ride of emotions.

Willow is a great book to open up the raw emotion of life and how children deal with situations. This is a great stepping stone to open communication with your teens, and heck not just teens, but maybe even your tweens. I have discussed this very topic with my son who is 16 and while I do plan on talking about it with my daughter I feel she is a tad too young just yet. But when the time comes I will be having her read this book first and then we can share our feelings.

I recommend this book to everyone, but be prepared to face some real emotions throughout.

Based on the summary this book sounded really good and I was so excited to start reading it! And then when I did… I was so disappointed. I don’t like the way the author writes, it was too fast paced and cliche for me. It was like a child wrote it! But maybe that’s just me.

I have to agree with Eve..I was really excited to read this book, as I am always excited to read new books, but this one was a huge disappointment. Her writing style is horrible imo, I can’t read it without wanting to edit everything..it sounds more like a children’s book the way everything is worded, rather than a young adult novel =/ I mean, I am still reading it because I want to know what happens, but it’s just bothering me how poorly written it is.

I’m reading this book right now (on chapter nine. At first, it almost made me sick the way I can connect with Willow. While I can agree with Lory on how it’s written, I feel it adds to the voice of the character. I love this book so far and I can’t wait to see how it ends!

I have never read another book that I could relate to so much. Willow reminds me so much of my girlfriend and this book basically describes our relationship. I really felt connected to Guy through the whole book. The only complaint I have is that it should have been written in first person, other than that, I loved it.

I read this book the day i got it and i finished it in three days. You were right, as soon as i started i couldnt stop. It is such a good book. I plan on reading it again and i know that even though i will know what will happen in the end, I will still be absorbed into it. this book is so, meaninful and discriptive and i know that whoever reads this book will absolutly love it, just as you or i have.
